How We Are Funded
Our mission to save lives across Yorkshire is fuelled by the unwavering support of our community.
Contrary to common misconceptions, we are an independent charity and receive no funding by the government or the NHS. It is the generosity of our supporters that keeps our helicopters soaring high and our life-saving missions possible.
How is Yorkshire Air Ambulance Funded?
Our funding comes from a diverse range of sources, all united in their dedication to supporting our cause. Every contribution, big or small, plays a vital role in keeping our helicopters in the sky and our life-saving missions possible. From the kindness of our corporate sponsors to local community groups creating unique events across our region, to a host of trusts and grants to help us fund vital equipment, our dedicated ‘Saving Lives Lotto’ players and generous regular givers—each donation makes a significant impact on our ability to respond swiftly to emergencies across the county.
So, thank you Yorkshire, for being so good to us! Your unwavering support ensures that we can continue to be there for you, when you need us most.
Our Partnership with
Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust
Since our inception in 2000, Yorkshire Air Ambulance has worked hand-in-hand with the Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust (YAS). This longstanding partnership is built on mutual support and collaboration, with YAS providing invaluable medical guidance, supplies, training, and personnel to enhance our operations.
Our Fundraising Ethics
Integrity lies at the heart of everything we do. We’re committed to transparency, ensuring that every penny donated is used responsibly to further our life-saving mission. Our fundraising practices are guided by strong ethics, designed to empower and educate our supporters without any sense of obligation or pressure.
“We are purely the custodians of the monies raised by our generous supporters.”
Mike Harrop, YAA Chairman
Our employees and volunteers help us ensure that no one feels obligated or pressured into donating to the Charity. We would never sell or profit from donor details. We are very clear about this in our marketing and communications. You can read our Privacy Policy here.
We aim to inform our supporters how their money has been spent. We do this through various channels, including working in the community, face-to-face talks & presentations, our website, social media, and other marketing communication channels.
For every £1 donated during the last financial year, 78p was spent to meet our charitable purpose – which is saving lives across Yorkshire.
“No two days are the same here at the YAA, it keeps me on my toes and I’m always excited about what the next day will bring.”
Angela Vyas, Community Fundraiser for West Yorkshire
Misconceptions and Clarifications
The Children’s Air Ambulance: While we share a common goal of saving lives, the Children’s Air Ambulance operates independently of us, focusing on neonatal and infant transfers. We respond to both adult and children emergency calls across Yorkshire.
The HELP Appeal: Operated by the County Air Ambulance Trust, the HELP Appeal is a separate entity dedicated to building and updating helipads across the UK. Though some helipads in Yorkshire have benefited from their funding, they are distinct from Yorkshire Air Ambulance.
