Becoming a YAA Paramedic or Doctor

HEMS Paramedics

All paramedics at Yorkshire Air Ambulance are internally seconded by YAS. Candidates must possess a minimum of 3 years of paramedic experience before considering the post.

Following an intensive application and recruitment process, selected paramedics become HEMS paramedics for a period of 2 – 3 years, depending on current circumstances. HEMS paramedics operate autonomously, utilising critical care skills such as administering ketamine, midazolam, blood, magnesium, and calcium. They are trained in advanced medical decision making, and performing surgical procedures like thoracotomy. Working alongside a Critical Care Doctor, they form the Yorkshire Critic
